My Investing Story (The Short Version)

Hi! 🙂 My name is Mabel, and I am the Chief Education Officer and Founder of Girl$ on The Money.

I started my investing journey in the summer of 2008. That was the year that I finally gathered up the courage to buy my first stock after a very long time of just “thinking about it.”

And here is what happened: Just three months after I bought my first stock, the stock market crashed! lol, imagine that. This was a result of the housing bubble that bursts and shook the world!

Check out this headline from the Wall Street Journal from September 2008:

But guess what –
buying my first stocks during such crazy times turned out to be a real blessing in disguise.

I learned very early on that fluctuations in the stock market are nothing to worry about and that keeping a long term mentality is extremely important.

Instead of “panicking” and selling my stocks, I started looking for “sales” and invested in amazing companies that were selling at a “discount” due to the stock market “crash.”

I have been an active participant in the stock market for well over a decade and is a HUGE passion of mine.

Through Girl$ on The Money, I share everything I know and continue to learn about investing.

It is, by far, one of the best skills I’ve learned in life and I look forward to sharing that knowledge with you.

The mission of Girl$ on The Money is to spread the knowledge of investing education and show that investing is NOT rocket science. Everyone can learn to invest and become successful at it.

As one of my investing mentors once said:

“Everyone has the brainpower to follow the stock market. If you made it through fifth-grade math, you can do it!”
